La Salette Associates
The La Salette Associate Program brings together lay people and religious who choose to bond themselves more closely with the ministry and the spirituality of the Missionaries of our Lady of La Salette. Associate membership is open to mature Christians. The various phases of discernment, orientation and formation lead to a decision to enter into a covenant with the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette.
The associate process begins with a period of discernment lasting about six months. A two-year formation program in which the candidate learns about the history, traditions, ministries and especially the charism of the LaSalette religious family follows this time of mutual discernment.
The charism of the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette is that of Reconciliation. The covenanted lay associate therefore attempts to be a reconciler in his or her home, extended family, workplace, church and society.
Following the formation period and after mutual agreement on the part of the candidate, the lay associate and religious communities, the candidate promises, for the period of one year, (promises renewable on a yearly basis), to continue a journey leading to an ever-closer bonding to the community of religious and lay associates by meeting regularly with the associate and religious communities. They covenant themselves to a life of prayer, faith sharing, ongoing conversion, and living the charism of Reconciliation.
